Efraim Gordon
1990 - 2021

Efraim Gordon Hashem Yikom Domo was born in Yerushalyim on 25 Nissan 5750 (1990).

Growing up, Efraim was the kindest boy you would possibly meet, he always had a smile, was very respectful and always wanted to learn something new.

Efraim served in the Israel army from the years 2009 until 2012.

In 2014 while studying in the University of Technology in Ariel, Efraim started getting closer to Yidishkeit.

We heard from his teachers and many friends regarding how much he valued everything that he studied and he excelled in it.

He especially valued all the Torah that he learned and he did his best to practice all the Torah and Mitzvois that he learned.

In the last couple of years, Efraim started learning more about Yiddishkait, and strengthening his observance of Torah and Mitzvos.

He was learning in College and working, but he still took time to learn in Yeshivas and Kolel.

His thirst for knowledge and truth led him to spend so much time learning, until he became a Baal Tshuva.

“Efraim was larger than life!” said his cousin, he only saw the positive in every person and in every situation. “I always thought that is just how he was to me, but when I was at his Shiva and heard from everyone the same exact thing, I realized that Efraim was truly a Goan in Middos Tovos and in Midas HaAnova (humility).”

Everyone who met him, spoke about his respect and appreciation towards every person. He made every person feel like he was special.

When it came to giving, it wasn't even a question he gave with a complete heart and never expected anything in return.

Efraim was truly a humble person, he always made every encounter about you and expressed genuine interest about how you were doing and how he could help.

Whenever the focus turned to him, he casually and gently turned it back to you he was almost without any ego whatsoever.

I can safely say that even when he was alive, there was no one who could say anything negative about him, negativity simply did not exist in his life, said his cousin.

One week before he was murdered he told his mother: I learned today in the Gemorah that if one believes Techiyas Hameisim, then they will be Zocheh to Techiyas Hameisim.
He then says, Mom please it's so important that you know and believe in it, that way you too will be Resurrected when Moshiach will come.

Here are a few stories that will perhaps shed a glimpse on his amazing but short life.

Efraim’s sister Ella, told the following story at the Shiva: A few years back a Meshulach (Charity collector) came to our home to collect money and I opened the door and was about to send him with 30 Shekel.

Efraim saw what was going on and ran to the door inviting the Yid inside, told him to sit down, have some water and started to speak with him about what he was collecting for and of how he can help.

Efraim then asked him to wait and came back with 300 Shekel from his savings fund.

Efraim then tells the Yid:  "My sister is so generous; she is donating another 300 Shekels for your cause." Then he turns to his sister and says, "Thank you Ella!"

Another friend related: when he was in the University of Ariel he had nowhere to stay for a few weeks, Efraim immediately let him know that he was welcome to stay in his room (which was very small) on a mattress that they squeezed in.

A few days later his friend had another friend who came to visit and had nowhere to stay.

Efraim immediately said don't worry about it, take my bed as I have where to stay.

Only after he learned that Efraim drove home which was 2 hours away!

A Total Ba'al Teshuva

Efraim came to Baltimore to add joy and happiness for his cousin who was getting married.

Efraim added so much to the Simchas Chosson Vekalla, especially at a time that the guests and participants were limited

Efraim treasured the Mitzvah of Tefillin with all his heart.

His cousin recalls: “The very last conversation he had in this world, only 10 minutes before he was brutally murdered, was about Tefillin.

We were planning to go the next morning to the Tzion of the Lubavitcher Rebbe and he asked me if he should put on Teffilin before we left, or if we will be putting it on at the Tzion of the Rebbe in New York.

He then messaged me that he had arrived safely. I told him good night, I'll see you tomorrow Bezras Hashem I went to sleep and to my horror I was awoken 10 minutes later only to find out that Efraim had been murdered in Cold blood.”

Efraim returned his pure Neshomo ala bsahara hashamyma KaChatzois Halayla.

There is no doubt that Efraim was a complete Baal Tshuva and now a Tzadik and Hashem wanted him close by.

We will never forget Efraim and he will always be our Teacher and example of what it means to be kind and understanding and what True Anivus is.

On the tragic night, when Efraim was brutally killed, he pulled up to his residence, and on his way from the car to the house, was approached by the murderers who shot and killed him

These people were waiting in the area for some time that night. These people didn’t know Efraim. They did not know where he was coming from, or where he was going.

They could have been in any area, any street, and any person, they were just looking for someone to victimize.

Efraim was holy, because he died Al Kiddush HaShem.

Efraim loved the Torah more than anything else and now he no longer can learn Torah in this world.

We have taken upon ourselves to write a Sefer Torah in Efraim’s Memory and Zechus and to complete the Torah on his Yahrzeit, in the very place where his life was tragically taken from him.

You can take part of this holy project by buying a letter, amud, Sefer in the Torah, It will be a great Zechus.

We know that Shlomo Hamelech says in Kahalet 7: 2 - והחי יתן אל לבו

If we can all take upon ourselves one good deed, especially in the field of Ahvas Yisroel then we can assure that Efraim did not die in vain.

If there is one practical thing we can learn from him, it would be that, no matter how busy stressed or overworked Efraim was, he never failed to notice those around him and was always present for them to help them as much as he could. We all have so much going on and sometimes we are overloaded, we cannot notice or even turn an eye from those that are around us, sometimes the closest people in our lives. May Efraim always be an inspiration for us to really be there for each other in every situation that we are in.

May this Achdus, Unity and Massim tovimb be niskabel by hashem and may we merit speedily in our days to Beas Goel Tzedek and Tchasias Hameisim and we will once again be able to see Efraim.
